It seemed surreal. This foreboding piece of ocean with its horror stories from the days of square riggers was a milky glaze for 100s of miles with just an occasional ripple. Yet more than 5km deep.
We had decided to take the direct route from headland to headland over the deep water to avoid the chop which you get further in the bay.
We hardly saw another vessel but there were plenty of dolphins playing in our bow wave. Plus a couple of whale sightings.
The miles clicked by effortlessly, Colin trawling his lines in the lost hope of fresh tuna for supper.
Chicken tonight and more stars and planets. Being so quiet we decided on single person watch with 2 hours on and 6 off. The radar would pick up anything approaching.
Later in the night it was pitch dark apart from the luminescence created by our bow wave and the glow from our following dolphins as they stirred the plankton around them. Amazing!
